Curriculum Coverage:

This term in maths, we will be exploring decimals, percentages, and fractions, as well as perimeter, area, and volume. Children will deepen their understanding of the relationships between fractions, decimals, and percentages, learning how to convert between them and apply their knowledge to real-life contexts such as money, measurement, and problem-solving. In our work on perimeter, area, and volume, pupils will develop their skills in calculating the space within and around shapes, using these concepts to solve practical challenges. Through hands-on activities, reasoning tasks, and problem-solving opportunities, we aim to build confidence and fluency in these key mathematical areas.

This term in English, our text focus will include The Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll during Poetry Week and Manfish by Jennifer Berne. The Jabberwocky is a classic nonsense poem that will encourage children to explore playful language, rhyme, and rhythm while developing their ability to interpret meaning from unfamiliar words. Through creative writing and performance, they will build confidence in their poetic expression. Manfish tells the inspiring story of Jacques Cousteau, combining biography with poetic storytelling to engage pupils in themes of exploration, curiosity, and environmental awareness. Using this text, children will develop their reading comprehension, descriptive writing, and biographical writing skills, while making connections to science and the natural world.

This term, our Theme lessons will focus on My Region and the Western United States, where children will compare the East Midlands with the western United States. They will explore the geography, climate, and physical features of both regions, identifying similarities and differences in landscapes, natural resources, and settlements. Through this study, pupils will learn about how geography influences lifestyle, industry, and culture in each location. They will also examine historical and environmental factors, such as how land use has changed over time and the impact of human activity. This comparative study will help develop their geographical skills, critical thinking, and a broader understanding of the world around them.

This term in RE, we will be exploring the question: What do Christians believe Jesus did to save people? Children will learn about key Christian beliefs surrounding Jesus' life, death, and resurrection, and how these events are seen as a way of bringing salvation to humanity. They will explore concepts such as sacrifice, forgiveness, and redemption, considering their significance in Christian teachings and worship today. Through discussion, reflection, and storytelling, pupils will develop an understanding of how these beliefs influence the lives of Christians and the ways in which they express their faith. This unit encourages thoughtful discussions about kindness, compassion, and the meaning of selflessness.
