Curriculum Coverage
In Maths, we will be using our Power Maths scheme to help children extend their understanding of the number system to 50. Children will count forwards and backwards to 50 and use equipment to partition numbers into tens and ones. We will also be introducing the children to the measures of length, height, mass and capacity. We will use a variety of equipment such as balance scales, centimetre rulers and measuring jugs to help children compare different quantities.
This half-term in English, we will continue to use the Read Write Inc. Scheme of work. Each day we have a phonics session to practise one of the set 3 sounds; we will be extending our knowledge by reading and writing multisyllabic words with these sounds. The children have progressed to using orange RWI decodable books, which we use to complete activities involving comprehension, grammar and writing. Towards the end of the half-term, the children will learn how to write a simple recount in the form of a postcard linked to our geography unit.
Our RE unit this half-term is ‘What do Christians believe God is like?’ The children will learn the importance of a selection of parables and discuss the differences between the four main types of Christian prayer. Our science unit is an introduction to electricity. We will identify items that use mains electricity or batteries and how we can use these items safely. Our geography unit will introduce the children to the differences between countries, cities, towns and villages. They will learn about the four countries of the United Kingdom and the surrounding seas. They will also learn the human and physical features of the four capital cities.
